The tutor – Dr. Tammy Humphrey

I have a PhD and a 1st class honours degree in physics from the University of New South Wales. I have previously worked in physics research in Australia, as well as in the U.S. and Europe, with my most recent academic position being a Marie Curie Incoming International Fellowship at the University of Geneva. More detailed information on my research and academic employment can be found on my professional homepage, www.humphrey.id.au.

In 2007 I was looking for more family friendly work (I now have two young sons), and having enjoyed previous teaching roles, I completed a Graduate diploma in secondary education at Macquarie University, taking both science and maths teaching methodology subjects. During this time I also completed the biology subjects required to qualify me to teach biology to HSC level.

I am enthusiastic about the subjects I teach, and take great pleasure in seeing students progress in their understanding (and enjoyment!) of maths and science.

The ‘backup’ tutor – Dr. David Humphrey

My husband, David, may occasionally take a class if I am unable to teach for some reason. Dave currently works as a research engineer at CSIRO and has a 1st class honours degree in electrical engineering and physics and a PhD in electrical engineering (signal processing) from the University of New South Wales.

He was employed as the Mathematics tutor at New College at the University of New South Wales from 1996 to 1997 (at the same time I was the physics tutor). While at high school he qualified for both the Chemistry and Physics Olympiad teams, representing Australia at the Physics Olympiad in Beijing. He was a team tutor and leader for two subsequent Australian physics Olympiad teams.

He also wrote this website.
